Million Project for more quality in long-term care in the state of Bremen: Up to now, there has been no place in long-term care where teaching, research and care are provided at the same time. In the project T!CALL of the University of Bremen and the Bremen University of Applied Sciences (HSB), care facilities are being developed into "academic teaching care facilities".

In Germany, the number of people in need of long-term care is increasing while the number of inhabitants is decreasing. For this reason, ensuring high-quality care is one of the central challenges for the future. It is therefore necessary to create structures that enable the implementation of technical and organisational innovations in "normal operation". The basic idea of the T!CALL initiative is the creation of an "academic teaching nursing facility cluster", which is to assume a bridging function between science, education and care practice and enable a two-way transfer. By creating sustainable innovation structures, T!CALL contributes to proactively improving care in the areas of: i) quality of life of people with care needs and their relatives, ii) quality of care and iii) quality of work in long-term care. At the same time, T!CALL creates a new sustainable innovation culture in the areas of care, education and training in long-term care as well as in the area of establishing interdisciplinary partnerships between (nursing) scientists, nurses and (nursing) educators as well as business partners from the areas of development and distribution of technical innovations. The T!CALL initiative was launched in spring 2023 and is scheduled to run for a total of nine years. The initiative is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with up to 16 million euros. One sub-project is the DigiTrans project managed by Prof. Karin Wolf-Ostermann. It is made up of the two sub-projects DigiTrans-Eval (digitalisation and evaluation of technical innovations in long-term care) and DigiTransImplemenTIA (implementation of technical innovations in long-term care) and aims to: select digital care technologies (DPT) in the steering committee, test promising DPT under everyday conditions, implement positively evaluated DPT in the academic teaching care facilities (AL) of the TCALL initiative and transfer them to the transfer region and beyond.
