Exposure to environmental hazards, such as air pollution and noise, are not evenly distributed across population groups.
In fact, socioeconomically disadvantaged people are usually exposed to more and more intensive environmental hazards.
So far, both objective and subjective methods have been used to assess the distribution of environmental exposures. These include participatory approaches in which persons define and indicate exposure to environmental hazards themselves.
However, up to this point, such measures do not reflect subjective experiences of fairness and justice of the distribution of environmental hazards.
The DASEIN study aims to provide proof-of-concept for subjective ratings of environmental justice and injustice using digital technology. In order to do so, participants will subjectively report environmental exposures in real time via a smartphone app and rate these in terms of perceived justice and injustice. The study further aims to investigate whether the subjective experience of injustice is influenced by other factors.
