Awarding International Gerontology Prize of Turkey of the Year 2023 to Prof Karin Wolf-Ostermann

Prof. Karin Wolf-Ostermann from the IPP at the University of Bremen was awarded the International Science Prize for her contribution to social and applied gerontology at the opening ceremony of the XI International Symposium on Gerontology at Akdeniz

Prof Karin Wolf-Ostermann has been working closely with the Department of Gerontology and the Faculty of Nursing at Akdeniz University in Antalya for several years. This cooperation included, for example, collaboration with Prof. Dr Ismail Tufan, who founded the Department of Gerontology at Akdeniz University in Antalya, and Dr Şengül Akdeniz, who visited the Institute of Public Health and Nursing Research for a research stay of several months in 2020. In November 2023, Prof. Wolf-Ostermann spent a one-week research stay at Akdeniz University, supported by the Board of Directors of the Scientist Support Programme BİDEB. As part of this programme, Prof. Wolf-Ostermann gave lectures at the Institute of Public Health and Nursing Research and on research in the field of nursing care research, took part in the IV Gerontology Workshop in Ibradi and visited model facilities for the care of people with dementia in Antalya and for the care of older people in rural areas. The highlight of the research visit was the awarding of the International Gerontology Prize of Turkey of the Year 2023 to Prof Karin Wolf-Ostermann

In her acceptance speech, Prof. Wolf-Ostermann emphasised that receiving this prize was a great honour in her scientific career and that she was very happy to receive the award, which is highly respected throughout Europe.

There are plans to expand the cooperation with Akdeniz University in the coming years, both in the area of research cooperation and in the exchange of students and academics.
