Book Presentation on Russia’s Energy Exports by Margarita Balmaceda

Is Russia using its energy exports for political purposes? And which actors profit along the value chain of Russian energy exports? On Tuesday July 19 at 16:15, Margarita Balmaceda (Seton Hall and Harvard University), will present her new book on the topic.

Margarita Balmaceda will present her new book “Russian Energy Chains: The Remaking of Technopolitics from Siberia to Ukraine to the European Union” on Tuesday July 19 at 16:15, at the final session of the IERP-VWL Kolloquium this semester (Room F2340, WiWi 2, Max-von-Laue Str. 1, 2nd floor).

Margarita Balmaceda is Professor of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University and Associate of the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies and of the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Princeton University.

Margarita’s book has come out with Columbia University Press last year, and provides a comprehensive picture of the incentives and interests of political and economic actors along the entire value chain of Russian energy exports – from production to processing, transportation and marketing. Margarita will provide an updated presentation of her book in view of the war in Ukraine, to show how different actors are affected by the current situation – from Russian energy giant Gazprom and regional Russian oligarchs to institutions in Ukraine and regulators, politicians and the public in the European Union.

After the seminar we will go as always for dinner at Haus am Walde (http://hausamwalde-bremen.de/). If you want to join us for dinner, do send a short email to michael.rochlitzprotect me ?!uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de.
