  • German
    • No knowledge of German is required.

Can I have my application documents checked before submitting my application?
  • The university does not offer pre-checks of application documents.
  • In critical cases, the study centers can assess the suitability of the achievements from a previous degree program. This only applies to cases in which the assignment to business studies and practical computer science is not clear. Inquiries in which the allocation is clear and obvious to the applicant cannot be processed.

What happens if I apply even though I do not meet the admission requirements? Can I replace admission requirements with other achievements?
  • If the requirements are not met, enrollment is not possible. There is no conditional admission.
  • There is no minimum GPA or numerus clausus.
  • Work experience cannot replace academic requirements.

I have acquired my credits outside the ECTS system. How do I convert them into ECTS credit points?
  • When converting credit points for courses taken outside the ECTS system, the following formula can be used:
  • ECTS CP = cr_course * (60 * yrs)/(total)
cr_course: credits earned in the respective course | yrs: duration of the study program in years | total: total sum of credits of the study program

Application

Who should I contact with questions about the application process?

The application process is the responsibility of the Student Office (SfS). Questions about the application and enrollment process should therefore be addressed directly to the SfS.

What deadlines do I have to consider for my application?
  • Beginners only start in the winter semester.
    • application period: April 1 to May 31
  • Advanced students start in the summer semester or winter semester.
    • Application period for the summer semester: December 1 to January 10
    • Application period for the winter semester: April 1 to May 31
    • Advanced students must prove that they have already earned at least 10 CP in courses that
      • are either from the MIS program at the University of Bremen
      • or can be recognized for modules in the MIS program at UBremen
  • All deadlines apply equally to all applicants (EU and non-EU).

How do I submit my application?
  • Information on the application process is published on the UBremen Master's portal.
  • The SfS compiled an FAQ list to answer typical questions in the application process. It explains, for example, in which form international application documents must be translated and in which cases an APS certificate must be submitted. The SfS will answer any questions on these topics.
  • Applications are submitted exclusively via the UBremen MOIN application portal. The application is submitted in electronic form.
    • The required documents are specified in the application form in MOIN. An application can be started, then saved and completed and submitted at a later date.
    • It is recommended to start the application early and not just shortly before the application deadline.
    • Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their application documents are complete and in the correct form.

Selection procedure

Who decides on my application?
  • Applications are checked by the Student Office (SfS) for the formal examination and by the selection board of the degree program (AK) for the content examination.
  • Preliminary assessments of the likely acceptance of achievements for the fulfillment of the admission requirements are not binding. Only the assessments of the SfS and the AK are legally binding.
  • It is not possible to contact the AK directly. The SfS will answer any queries.

When will I receive feedback on my application?
  • Applicants usually receive feedback on the admission or rejection of their application approx. 6 to 8 weeks after the application deadline. The status of an application can be viewed in MOIN at any time. Individual inquiries about the processing status should be avoided.

Enrollment

Who do I contact with questions about enrollment?
  • All procedures and processes associated with enrollment are the responsibility of the Student Office (SfS).
  • All questions regarding admission and enrollment should be directed to the SfS. This includes, for example
    • appeals against rejection notices
    • questions about health insurance
    • deadlines for the submission and subsequent submission of documents
    • translation guidelines for certificates and documents
    • semester documents
    • ...

Can I also contact the faculty with my questions about enrollment?
  • The faculties have neither the authority nor the access authorization to provide information on the status of an enrollment procedure, details of the process or deadlines. Therefore, the Study Centers and course coordinators at the faculties cannot provide any information on these topics.

Visa Issues and Late Arrival

Does the University of Bremen support me in applying for my student visa?
  • Applying for a visa in good time is the sole responsibility of the admitted international student.
  • The University has no means of accelerating visa processes and does not establish contact with German diplomatic missions (embassies) abroad.

My visa process is delayed, what should I do?
  • Upon request, the Study Center Business Studies and Economics issues Late Arrival Letters for submission to the respective embassy.
    • In a late arrival letter, the faculty certifies that admission to the program is still permitted even if the student arrives late.
    • Late arrival letters are only issued for one semester.
  • Even in the case of late arrival in Bremen, the degree program officially begins in the winter semester; the following deadlines apply in order to attend courses in the respective semester:
    • Late admission to courses in the first semester is at the discretion of the lecturers. Usually, a late start is possible until the beginning of November.
    • After the beginning of November, compulsory courses can only be taken from the following summer semester. The Study Center provides advice on individual study plans.
  • It is not possible to apply for a semester of leave in the first semester.

What do international students need to consider when preparing for their studies in Bremen?

Accommodation and Financing

Where can I live?
  • The University of Bremen does not run its own dormitories. For admitted students, there is no entitlement to accommodation provided by the University.
  • The International Office and the Studierendenwerk Bremen (Student Services) compiled some information on finding accommodation. The Studierendenwerk is also the contact for public student residences in Bremen.

Can I apply for a scholarship at the University of Bremen?

How high are the tuition fees?
  • There are no program-specific tuition fees.
  • Only the semester fee is due (~ 350 euros per semester).

Study Contents and Study Plan

Where can I find the rules for studying?
  • Study content, plans and modules are defined in the subject-specific Master's examination regulations (MPO) of the degree program.
  • The official versions of examination regulations, their amendments and corrections are published by the Central Examination Office (in German).
  • A current version of the MPO can be found in the UBremen study database (→ Examinations and regulations, German only).
  • The faculty provides a non-binding English translation of the latest version of the reading version.

Where can I find more information about preparing for my studies?
  • A simplified study plan shows the ideal course of study. The modules do not have to be taken in the order shown.
    • Modules are not the same as courses. Courses must be taken within modules. Some modules contain compulsory courses, in others students can choose from various courses offered.
  • The UBremen course catalog lists all courses according to degree programs. It also lists the courses that can be chosen from in modules with elective options.
  • The University of Bremen uses the Stud.IP learning platform to manage and monitor all courses. Students register there for the courses they wish to take, and lecturers share details on course organization via Stud.IP. A timetable can be generated in Stud.IP from the courses taken.
Please note: Registering for a course in Stud.IP does not include registration for the module examination!
  • The faculty summarized further information on MIS studies in the program description.
  • The recognition process for credits earned in a previous degree program only takes place after enrollment, i.e. only at the beginning of the semester in which the degree program starts (not upon receipt of the semester documents).
