Description

As a consequence of the ageing population, the increase in age-specific illnesses and the associated rise in the need for care, the question of care requirements and needs is becoming increasingly important - an increase in demand for alternative and integrative forms of care can be observed.

In recent years, the concept of green care farms has developed as an alternative form of care, including for people with dementia, and has successfully established itself internationally. The respective concepts of such services can vary greatly, but at their core, the aim is to make the nature-based environment of farms accessible to people with dementia. The level of development of green care farms within Europe is currently still very differentiated. In Germany, there have been initial developments in this area in recent years. However, there is currently no reliable data on the exact number of farms in the field of social farming in Germany, nor is there any reliable knowledge regarding the various objectives of the offers, the financing systems, the acceptance of the users and the benefits in terms of care outcomes such as quality of life or social participation.

There is currently a lack of valid and up-to-date data on structures, care outcomes and quality assurance measures in order to actually be able to properly implement possible management in the promotion of farms for people with dementia. This evaluation aims to close the first gaps.

The objectives of the scientific study on farms for people with dementia are orientated towards the intentions formulated by the legislator, as stated in the Care Strengthening Act II passed by the Federal Cabinet (low-threshold offers / offers for support in everyday life).

The study therefore deals with the evaluation of resources and barriers of the "Farms for people with dementia" programme and collects the necessary basic data:

  • Overview of the various national and international green care programmes,

  • Current data on the supply and user structure, framework conditions for the implementation and utilisation of the care concept and on financing options,

  • Overview of the utilisation, expectations and acceptance of the various green care services on the one hand and, in particular, of farms for people with dementia in Schleswig-Holstein on the other,

  • Aspects that are decisive for the continuation of the care offer, gff. aspects of necessary additional support requirements for the continuation (e.g. with regard to public relations work, etc.),

  • Possible approaches for improving the care offer.

Based on these statements, a summarised description of the care and support services offered by farms for people with dementia is provided and further development options are described.
