Global Health Department organizes GLOHRA workshop “Story matters” at the House of Science in Bremen for early career researchers in Global Health

A two-day training workshop titled “Story Matters”, organized by the German Global Health Research Alliance (GLOHRA) Academy and supported by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), took place on 27–28 October 2025 at the Haus der Wissenschaft in Bremen.

GLOHRA training “Story matters” took place at the Haus der Wissenschaft in Bremen. Twenty-two early-career researchers from the field of Global Health participated, engaging with approaches to document analysis and the use of maps in storytelling. Prof. Dr. Melanie Böckmann (IPP Bremen) and Dr. Fabienne Pradella (University of Mainz & University of Heidelberg) led the externally funded workshop. Participants explored questions such as: How do stories shape our scientific perspectives? Which narratives dominate, and which are missing? And how can maps help make local contexts visible? The program combined theoretical reflection with practical application. In their keynote inputs, Dr. Alexandre Pereira Santos (LMU Munich), Prof. Tyler Zoanni (University of Bremen), Dr. Faraz Siddiqui (University of York), Dr. Fabienne Pradella (University of Mainz & University of Heidelberg), and Prof. Dr. Melanie Böckmann (University of Bremen) provided insights into ethnographic discourse analysis, qualitative content analysis, phenomenological perspectives, and the role of maps in scientific storytelling. Practical exercises on mapping spaces in Bremen’s city center, along with in-depth discussions of participants’ own research projects, allowed attendees to directly apply theoretical knowledge and experiment with the methods in dialogue with one another.
