Lisa Aschenbach, Xenia Kumm and Leonie Renelt, Student assistant at the Institute for Public Health and Nursing Research IPP, achieved second place with their research project “Menstruation in Everyday University Life“ awarded by the Institute for Cycle Health.

On 12 September, Lisa Aschenbach, Xenia Kumm und Leonie Renel, three students on the Master's programme in Public Health – Health Promotion and Prevention won second place in the IAMCR Innovation Award for Menstrual Cycle Research with their research project 'Menstruation im Uni-Alltag'. The award was presented by the Institute for Cycle Health as part of the 'Period of Change' conference. The institute is committed to raising awareness of cycle health in society, the workplace and research, and increasing its visibility and recognition. Its goal is to create a society in which cycle health is naturally considered in medicine, education, work, and politics.

The 'Menstruation im Uni-Alltag' research project was conducted as part of a three-semester research seminar on the Master's programme in Public Health – Health Promotion and Prevention at the University of Bremen. The project aimed to identify actionable recommendations for the University of Bremen to promote a healthy and menstruation-sensitive approach to students' menstrual cycles in everyday university life. To this end, the needs of menstruating students at the University of Bremen were surveyed using an anonymous online questionnaire (n = 912). Based on the survey results, two interviews  were conducted with two university staff members to ascertain how the identified needs could be met and how institutional framework conditions could be improved. Recommendations for action for the University of Bremen were finally formulated based on the results of both studies. Work is currently underway on publishing the results and recommendations for action.
