A portrait of Thorsten Dickhaus

A face of Faculty 3

One face of Department 3 Thorsten Dickhaus is Professor of Mathematical Statistics and heads the working group of the same name. Since 2016 he has also been Vice-Dean of the Academic Self-Government for Mathematics. In his research he mainly deals with simultaneous statistical inference, e.g. how to test many statistical hypotheses simultaneously on the basis of one and the same data set.

After graduating from high school, Thorsten Dickhaus first trained as a mathematical-technical assistant at Forschungszentrum Jülich and then studied technical mathematics at Fachhochschule Aachen, Jülich Department. Subsequently, Mr. Dickhaus obtained the M.Sc. in "Mathematics and Application Areas" at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. He received his doctorate at the same university.

At Faculty 3, he particularly likes the collegiality, the short distances, the decentralised examination office and the decentralised contact persons for third-party funding questions.

"Maria, however, kept all these words and moved them in her heart. (Luke 2, verse 19), this favourite quotation reflects, besides chess in the club, reading and listening to music, an important part of Mr. Dickhaus's leisure time activity, his theological correspondence course.

Dear Thorsten, thank you very much for the interview!
