Instantaneous blowup for a one-dimensional heat conduction equation with linear excitation

(PD Dr. Hendrik Vogt)

The topic of this project is the numerical treatment of a one-dimensional heat conduction equation coupled to a linear excitation. If the coupling parameter is too large, the equation is known to be ill-posed and there is instantaneous blowup for the solutions of a regularized equation. The goal is to numerically determine the blowup rate for different values of the coupling parameter.

Basic knowledge of calculus and numerics is recommended. The duration of the work within the research group should be at least four weeks. In addition, a written paper and a final presentation in the seminar are expected.
