New Concept for the Protection of Marine Biodiversity: The AGELESS Project

Human-made climate change is not confined by national borders. The AGELESS Consortium explores the question of how marine life affected by climate change can be protected beyond areas of national jurisdiction. The Federal Government funds the interdisciplinary project over a three-year period.

Places Available at Informatica Feminale and International Summer University for Women in Engineering

Researching Heat Waves in the Mediterranean with the Diving Community

A new project, which is being coordinated by MARUM, is systematically collecting data to monitor temperatures in the Mediterranean Sea. Researchers are relying on citizen scientists, divers who practice their hobby in these waters and always have a mini-computer with them for safety reasons.

President Jutta Günther: "Academic System in Bremen Is Unique in Germany"

On July 3, the universities in the state of Bremen welcomed the members of the German Council of Science and Humanities' Scientific Commission at MARUM. The occasion was the commission's summer meetings in Bremen this year. Around 130 guests attended the reception.

High Level of Third-Party Funding

A great strength of the University of Bremen is its considerable success in the acquisition of third-party funds, both in individual as well as in collaborative research. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is the largest provider of third-party finance: Besides the MARUM Cluster of Excellence, the University of Bremen is currently involved in no less than seven Collaborative Research Centers, as well as a number of research groups and priority programs.

Strategic Promotion of Talent

The targeted promotion of young talent, unlocking potential, and early independence are among the guiding principles of the University of Bremen. We offer intensive support to young academics in six DFG research training groups, numerous junior research groups and also through doctoral programs offered in cooperation with non-university research institutions.

Have You Heard of... the Carpentry Workshop?

The warm and earthy smell of wood gives it away: Here, in the University of Bremen’s maintenance depot, the carpentry workshop is the place for drilling, repairing, and sawing. This is master carpenter Christiane Sarnow’s realm, with her two journeypersons and four trainees.
