European partners and networks

Groningen

The University of Bremen (UB) and the University of Groningen (RUG) have been collaborating for decades as close regional neighbors. The RUG is a strategic partner of the Northwest Alliance, the newly founded research and knowledge transfer alliance between Bremen and Oldenburg. As a consortium of excellence, the Northwest Alliance leverages its strategic partnership with Groningen to take a step toward “European Excellence” at the institutional level.

Cardiff

The University of Bremen has long maintained research ties with Cardiff University (CU), including through the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences (MARUM) and the Cardiff School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, as well as through the Fiction Meets Science group (FMS) in Bremen and Cardiff University’s interdisciplinary ScienceHumanities initiative. 

In 2019, the two universities established the Bremen-Cardiff Research Alliance, which has since been elevated to the status of a strategic partnership.

Erasmus

The University of Bremen has approximately 300 Erasmus partner universities in Europe. Student, faculty, and staff mobility is covered by more than 650 departmental agreements. In addition, the University of Bremen coordinates a number of Erasmus cooperation projects.

Through the Erasmus – International Dimension program, the University of Bremen collaborates with a small number of partner universities outside Europe.

YUFE

The University of Bremen has always sought international collaboration in research and teaching. The University of Bremen is part of the “YUFE” (Young Universities for the Future of Europe) alliance. YUFE offers students and university staff opportunities across Europe to further their development in education, research, and their careers. As one of ten partner universities, the University of Bremen is committed to a strong Europe of solidarity and cooperation within the YUFE Alliance. In line with its new mission statement, the University of Bremen, together with YUFE, assumes responsibility at the European level for the necessary social and ecological changes, as well as for democracy, diversity, and justice.

YERUN

The University of Bremen is a founding member of the Young European Research Universities Network - YERUN. Seventeen young and research-strong universities have joined forces in this network with the aim of intensifying their cooperation and jointly representing the voice of young universities at the European level.
