Apply now until 30 June 2026! The Baumeister Foundation for Equal Opportunities is launching its fifth funding round, offering scholarships for students and support for small-scale projects run by early-career researchers

The Baumeister Foundation for Equal Opportunities – one of our six trust foundations –

has set itself the goal of contributing to equal opportunities and the elimination of structural disadvantages, particularly those based on gender and social background. Young women are affected by structural disadvantages in a different and more severe way than young men. The Foundation therefore wishes to support and promote female students and early-career researchers in particular.

The Foundation is now accepting applications again until 30 June 2026 in two funding areas:

1. For students: Award of small grants for the final year of study. Support is intended primarily for those facing more challenging circumstances (parenting or caregiving responsibilities; ‘children of working-class families’; entry to higher education via adult or second-chance education). The aim is to achieve a successful university degree.

2. For early-career researchers: Support for smaller projects on the themes of ‘the future of work’ and ‘social security’ from a gender perspective. The aim is to promote gender studies within this thematic scope.

Scholarship for young South African researchers

The WYFG is a scholarship for one study term at the University of Bremen. It addresses South African master-students in their final year of studies or PhD candidates at the beginning of their research with an academic focus in the field of cultural or social sciences. WYFG specifically welcomes applications from South African partner institutions of the University of Bremen (University of the Western Cape, Capetown; University of the Free State, Bloemfontein; University Kwazulu Natale, Durban). The stay in Bremen is organized in cooperation with the Faculty 09 Cultural Studies and the interdisciplinary and collaborative research platform Worlds of Contradiction (WOC) at the University of Bremen. The grant is funded by the Foundation of the University of Bremen, enabled by a donation of the Herald Tribune World Youth Forum Alumni Association and will go to one recipient per year.
