For Citizens and Life Long Learners

Lifelong Learners

At YUFE we firmly believe that learning happens throughout our whole life. Because of this we are reaching out beyond our own partner universities’ students and staff to offer learning opportunities for citizens of all ages.

YUFE Managing Complexity

YUFE Skills of the Future Programme

The programme aims to provide learning activities that help lifelong learners, professionals and citizens in a broad sense to acquire the skills and  knowledge required in tomorrow’s world. The Skills of the Future Programme, which is currently being built up, starts with a first set of courses under the framework topic of “Managing Complexity”. Courses are available in three thematic categories: sustainability, management and European perspectives. The courses are provided by different YUFE Partner Universities. Most of the courses are paid, academic and credit-bearing online courses, and you will get a certificate for your efforts from the host  university.

Find out more on the dedicated YUFE website. All available courses are listed on the YUFE Virtual Campus where you can sign up after creating a YUFE account and learner ID. For more information about the contribution of the University of Bremen, visit the Future Skills website of the Academy for Continuing Education.

YUFE Academy is a series of free lectures and workshops which is open to anyone. It aims to give a broader audience an insight into some of the most relevant topics of our times which the YUFE partner universities do research on: inclusion, health, sustainability and European identity. There is one edition in the spring (around Europe Day on May 9) and one edition in the autumn (in the context of the European Night of Research in late September).

Find out more on the dedicated YUFE website. All available courses are listed on the YUFE Virtual Campus. For more information about the spring 2025 lecture at the University of Bremen, visit the Bremen YUFE website.

YUFE Community and Civic Engagement

YUFE Community and Civic Engagement aims to contribute to a European Higher Education Area that serves societies by helping to solve some of the most  pressing challenges of the present. It seeks to integrate YUFE partner universities into regional communities through  local activities organised with the participation of students, experts, local governments, and civil society organisations. YUFE Community Engagement activities allow students to get credits (YUFE Stars) for participating in Community Volunteering Offers in cooperation with local charities. The scope of duties depends on the place where the activity is carried out and may include, e.g., providing educational support to children, distributing food to the needy, helping to plan, run, and follow up on community service events, keeping seniors company for some time, or supporting refugees.

This way, students get to know the broader context and environment of the ten YUFE partner universities.

Find out more on the dedicated YUFE website. All available civic engagement activities for students, including offers and partnerships in Bremen, are listed on the YUFE Virtual Campus.
