Fascinating Crystallography Exhibition in Haus der Wissenschaft

You still have a chance to visit the exhibition “KRIMI – Fascination Crystallography” held in Haus der Wissenschaft: it doesn’t close until September 12, 2015. The exhibition organized by the University of Bremen in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kristallographie (DGK) will take you into the fascinating world of crystals, minerals, and historical instruments.

Get an impression of what to expect by viewing the video clip produced by the University Press Office.

The exhibition opened in July as a follow-up to the Year of CrystalIography proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations for 2014. It features a unique collection of crystalline objects covering a spectrum that ranges from the raw material up to high-tech products. In addition to this, several works of art contained in the exhibition illustrate that symmetry is not only inherent to crystals but is also a fundamental component of our conception of beauty.

The exhibition is divided into six sections featuring crystal and glass, crystal and technology, crystal and art, precious stones, gypsum, and historical instruments. You will be enthralled by the exhibits of natural crystals and marvelous jewelry, impressive high-tech exhibits, and hundred-year-old devices which were used to examine crystals in the past.

The exhibition’s initiator is Professor Reinhard X. Fischer, an expert on crystallography in the University of Bremen‘s Faculty of Geosciences. He received financial backing for the project from the Sparkasse Bremen and the Wolfgang Ritter Foundation.
