Kammerchor Scores Success at International Choir Festival

The 31 singers in the Kammerchor[Chamber choir] comprising students of the University of Bremen and the Bremen University of the Arts (HfK) can be well pleased with themselves. Recently returned from a concert tour of Portugal, the ensemble under the direction of HfK professor Friederike Woebcken was a great success at this year’s international choir festival in Lisbon, receiving two “golds” – one in the spiritual and the other in the worldly category.

“I’m absolutely thrilled about the awards and happy that the students could share such a great experience, meeting musicians from all over the world and performing concerts at such spectacular venues”, says choir leader Friederike Woebcken.

Performing in the open air in front of the historical backdrop of the Jeronimo Monastery in Lissabon-Belém, the Bremen Kammerchor joined other choirs from Portugal, Denmark, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and Mexico. Afterwards, the choir travelled to Porto to give a public concert together with the University of Porto’s chamber choir.

About the Kammerchor

The Chamber Choir of the University of Bremen and the Bremen University of the Arts currently comprises 31 singers: Eleven from the HfK and thirteen from the University of Bremen. They are sometimes joined by graduates of the two universities and citizens of Bremen. The students are drawn from different disciplines: Beside students of Musicology and Music Education, they belong to the Faculties of Information Technology, Mathematics, Political Science and German Studies. Before joining the choir they first have to audition. It is also expected that they have a social outlook.
