OPEN CAMPUS on July 11 in the Campus Park

The time has come round again: OPEN CAMPUS at the University of Bremen. Starting at 1.00 pm on July 11 we will once again be opening our doors to the public and providing some fascinating insights into what goes on at the University of Bremen. Under the motto “OPENING WORLDS – SHARING KNOWLEDGE!” the different faculties, institutes, international communities, and advisory services will be at hand to explain the type of things they do. Apart from talks and guided tours of institutes, the program encompasses the kindergarden campus and a diversity parcourse. There will be an on-stage science show, a science slam, and lots of musical entertainment. This popular OPEN CAMPUS event starts at 1.00 pm, and revelers can party to their hearts’ content up to midnight.

The main features on OPEN CAMPUS day are the 40 exhibition tents spread around the campus park, where representatives of the various faculties will be presenting their research or providing information on university studies. In the Rectorate’s tent, visitors will have an opportunity to meet the people responsible for running the University. Based on examples of trade in commodities like coffee, tea, and textiles, a group of international students will depict the effects of globalization and report on personal experiences of this in their home countries. Another group of students will be presenting their self-made vehicle called ‘Bremergy’. The linguistics tent invites visitors to participate in a taster language course, and a diversity parcourse allows people to find out for themselves about the difficulties and mobility barriers disabled persons have to cope with every day of their lives. Especially entertaining and plaful workshops in the two children’s tents will keep the more curious kids busy.

Several university units and institutes, including the Institute for Marine Research, the engineering sciences, and the area of robotics research, are offering guided tours. Other guided tours include the University Library, the Theater der Versammlung, and the Elementary School Workshop (you will need to register if you wish to take part in any of these tours – click here for program and ticket reservations). On a more serious note, visitors to the Mehrzweckhochhaus building will be able to hear number of interesting talks and lectures. The spectrum of topics ranges from crime prevention in Bremen and burnout syndrome, through travel literature in the GDR and contemporary literature from Mauritius, up to gravitation lenses and diabetes.

The stage program led by Roland Kanwicher and Chrissi Loock will provide variety in the form of pop-punk, an opening address by the Rector of the University of Bremen, Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter, music and dance from all over the globe, an inimitable physics-chemistry science show, and the ever-popular science slam. Starting at 7.00 pm, it’s party time with the Bremen bands ‘Pari Pari’, ‘we had to leave’, ‘The Eternal Spirit’, and later on with the DJ team Elvis and friends: Eleven hours of fascinating and entertaining events to give visitors an impression about life and work at the University of Bremen.
