University Presents New Year Book and Welcomes New Alumni

On Tuesday evening the University of Bremen had double cause to celebrate: release of the University Year Book 2010 and a reception in welcome of new alumni.

The University President presented the new University Year Book 2010  at the traditional Year Book reception organized by unifreunde e. V. [Friends and Sponsors of the University]. “We can look back over a truly successful twelve months”, said Professor Wilfried Müller during his welcome address to guests gathered in the Cafeteria in GW2. The Leibnizpreis [Leibniz Award] for geoscientist Kai-Uwe Hinrichs, the 20th anniversary of the Bremen drop tower, and the 350th anniversary of the State and University Library were just some of the highlights over the past year.

In 2010 the University of Bremen managed to acquire external funding in an amount of more than € 80 million. Among the over 3,000 graduations last year were some 300 doctorates. These are some of the themes dealt with in the new Year Book, providing an insight into just how successful the University’s scientists and scholars have become: this time round the Year Book features the Faculty of Pedagogy and Education Sciences with articles on the many research projects embedded in the Faculty and its comprehensive programs of study. The main topic of the new Year Book is “The University of Bremen: a Magnet for Talent“. Attracting and promoting young talent is one of the University’s major objectives. The Year Book illustrates several examples to show just how this functions in practice.

Alumni party goes on until late in the night

Following presentation of the new Year Book, some 300 guests celebrated the traditional welcome reception organized by the “Community Bremen” alumni network until late into the night. The Chairman, Dr. Tim Nesemann, warmly welcomed both the new and old members. An alumni himself, he was once a student of Mathematics and Economics, the now Chairman of the Board of the Sparkasse in Bremen still feels a close affinity to his alma mater. In order to strengthen the alumni work in the twelve Faculties of the University, “Community Bremen” has decided to set up so-called chapters. One of the new chapters, Pedagogy and Education Sciences, presented itself at the reception on Tuesday evening.
