What’s It Like to Be a Student?

The University of Bremen has come up with an exciting new offer for prospective students. A project called “Studienlots*innen” [Piloting through studies] gives them the chance to shadow students through the course of a typical day at university. They can accompany enrolled students in lectures and seminars, in the Dining Hall or cafeteria, become acquainted with other locations on the campus, and in this way gain insights into everyday student life. Participants will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and chat informally about things they are interested in. It doesn’t matter if you can’t manage to come along to the University in person because you can also establish contact with the participating students via e-mail or Facebook. Under www.facebook.com/studienorientierungunibremen the University students have posted tips on how to find your way around when you start studying at the University of Bremen. The Student Advisory Office has trained about 20 students to take part in the project. The offer is open to senior high school students, and is primarily intended to gain information on the more than 40 Bachelor programs and law studies offered by the University.

“I want to pass on my experiences”

“I volunteered to become a Studienlotsin because I remember how confused I felt myself when after taking my high-school diploma I was suddenly plunged into the jungle of possibilities offered at German universities”, says Sociology student Juliana. She already has a change of subject and university behind her, has spent time studying abroad, worked part-time alongside her studies, and acted as a counselor for prospective international students. Juliana now welcomes this opportunity to pass on her experiences. She says how much she appreciates the liberal atmosphere and freedom of thought so typical for the University of Bremen and finds it exciting to learn about different subjects.

Applications via the Studienlotsen web pages

If you would like to take advantage of the “Studienlots*innen” program you will find everything you need to know on the homepage www.uni-bremen.de/studienlotsen. You simply enter the name of the degree program you’re interested in and you will be contacted by a student allocated to this subject, who will then arrange a date for you to visit the University.
