The faculty of Human and Health Sciences (Faculty 11) at the University of Bremen (Germany) invites applications for a position at the Department of Psychology within the working unit “Psychological Research Methods and Cognitive Psychology” (Prof Dr Markus Janczyk):

PhD candidate (f/m/d) – salary 13 TV-L (50%)

The position is fixed-term for 3 years, starting at the earliest possible date – conditioned on release of the position – and will be filled subject to administrative approval.

The employment is regulated by the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act, §2 (1) (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). Therefore, candidates may only be considered for appointment if they still are still eligible for the respective qualification periods in accordance with § 2 (1) WissZeitVG. (This restriction usually applies only to candidates who have previously been employed at an institution in Germany.)

Job Specification

The prospective employee will support the working unit Research Methods and Cognitive Psychology with teaching courses within the scope of the initiative Research-Based Studies from the Outset.

The position provides the opportunity to self-responsibly develop and conduct a research project aimed at obtaining a PhD. A field of particular interest would be visual attention; other topics related to the unit’s research projects or methodological topics are possible as well. Tasks

  • Teaching duties of 2 SWS (semester hours) within the scope of empirical-experimental university courses at the Department of Psychology
  • Scientific services within the scope of self-responsibly conducting a research project
  • The employee is expected to advance their academic qualification, in particular writing of a dissertation thesis, within the scope of the project.

Requirements

  • Completed university studies (University Diplom, M.Sc., M.A.) in psychology or a related study program (e.g., Cognitive Science) with excellent performance
  • Excellent knowledge of psychological methods
  • Good command of statistics software (e.g., R) and experience with or interest in programming of experiments
  • Interest in cognitive-psychological research topics (perception, action, attention) and/or psychological methods and statistics
  • Excellent command of the English language
