“Good political work is dependent on committed researchers who recognize changes with a broad perspective and analytical depth and describe the effects independently,” explains Frank Nullmeier from the SOCIUM Research Center on Inequality and Social Policy at the University of Bremen and head of the Bremen office of the new institute. “The founded analysis of current changes in society and the working world and their effect on existing social-state and social-policy arrangements is imperative for an informed social-political discourse.”
Strengthening of Social Policy and Inequality Research
Thus, research on future topics of interest for social politics and transfer between science and practical fields are some of the core tasks of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Social Policy Research. Additionally, the institute is to take over the content-based networking and coordination of the Network for Interdisciplinary Social Policy Research (“Fördernetzwerk Interdisziplinäre Sozialpolitikforschung – FIS”), which was established in 2016.

Network for Interdisciplinary Social Policy Research
With the Network for Interdisciplinary Social Policy Research (“Fördernetzwerks Interdisziplinäre Sozialpolitikforschung – FIS”), the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) is strengthening the research and promotion of early-career researchers in the field of social policy at German universities. The researchers are to have the opportunity to establish themselves within the area of social policy research and the universities can expand, or even newly create structures in social policy and social law research.
