The day will create space for reflection and discussion, invite people to meet other members of the university, and encourage participants to think about the topic.
Between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., "Aware together" will be offering various workshops, an elevator quiz, a sound installation on experiences of discrimination, information stands from student initiatives and counseling services, an art exhibition, a performance by the "Theater der Versammlung" theater group, and a diversity slam.
University of Bremen's Mission Statement: Social Responsibility and Respectful Interaction
The university's new Mission Statement clearly states the university's responsibility: “We critically examine the power and hierarchical relationships specific to universities. [...] This is why we work on reliable structures, practices, and attitudes that support diversity and are anti-discriminatory. Together, we are creating an inclusive university where we treat each other with respect." This also means discussing the topics of diversity, discrimination, and responsibility more openly, courageously, and competently. The university day of action is contributing to this.
