Grand European cinema d‘auteur analyzed by cultural scholars, tour of the laboratory in the drop tower, a philosophical breakfast – the different departments of the University of Bremen have come up with lots of ideas to make the forthcoming information day for prospective students a memorable occasion. The event takes place on Wednesday 16th May, and apart from having a good time, prospective students will be given an insight into what it’s like to study at the University of Bremen.

More than 70 study programs will be on hand to provide details on everything prospective students need to know in order to make their final choice of studies, including the qualifications they will need in order to be admitted and career prospects. Moreover, in the afternoon visitors will be able to look in on some of the lectures. And lunchtime offers a great opportunity to try out the award-winning University dining hall.

Shortage of teachers in vocational schools: New Bachelor program comes to the rescue

Prospective students will also be able to learn about some important new developments, like changes to the admission procedure. Information will also be available on completely new study programs. For instance, the new Bachelor program for vocational education: Here, trained technicians in the fields of electrical engineering and metal engineering can gain the necessary qualifications to become teachers in extra-curricular school activities. Together with a Master of Education (M.Ed.) they can go on to apply for jobs as teachers at vocational schools. Trained technicians who do not possess the normal university entrance qualifications have been able to study at the University of Bremen since 2010: However, the new Bachelor creates a bridge to the existing M.Ed., which until now was only open to graduates from Universities of Applied Sciences.

New study programs in Engineering Management and Computer Science for Business with a Specialty in Electrical Engineering

This year the practice-oriented study programs at the University of Bremen will be supplemented by two attractive new subjects. On the one hand, a bridge has been created between business administration and information technologies, and, second, between the challenging new development facing business administration and electrical engineering. The rapid growth of new applications for digital technology means that enormous career chances are opening up for students on this study program. The University of Bremen is thus responding to the increased demand for graduates in this field.

First point of call: the Info booth in the Glass Hall

The info booth run by the Student Advisory Service in the Glass Hall main entrance to the University is your first point of call. Here, in the morning visitors will be able to obtain initial information on the study programs available, pick up catalogues, and inquire how to reach the various venues where the events are taking place. The different departments and service providers of the University will also have their own information booths.
