Strategic Partnerships
Strategic Partnerships with Universities
The University of Bremen currently maintains strategic partnerships with six selected universities worldwide. These partnerships are based on long-term collaboration in research, teaching, and academic exchange. The goal is to pool strong expertise, promote innovative projects, and establish sustainable international networks that contribute to the long-term development of the participating universities’ profiles. A particular focus is placed on aligning research and teaching with shared sustainability goals.
The selection of strategic partner universities is guided by clear criteria. These include, in particular, a high degree of academic alignment and complementary research profiles, the potential for institutionally anchored and long-term collaborations, as well as shared strategic interests. Another criterion is the demonstrable added value at the institutional level for students, researchers, and university management, for example through the exchange of best practices, the joint development of governance structures, and the strengthening of strategic management and internationalization processes.
In some partnerships, additional synergies arise through the University of Bremen’s Research Ambassador Program, which raises the profile of individual research collaborations and provides targeted support. With the founding of the North West Alliance in 2025, the Northwest Research Region will be strategically strengthened and further developed.
