The University of Bremen honors a faithful supporter: In January 2013, Dr. Almut Satrapa-Schill was awarded the University Medal in recognition of her services to the alma mater. The medal was presented during a reception held in Haus der Wissenschaft.
The dynamic development and anchoring of nursing studies and research at the University of Bremen over the past two decades is inextricably linked with her name. For over twenty years Dr. Satrapa-Schill has been in charge of the Robert Bosch Foundation’s strategy and funding program in the thematic areas of “health”, “care”, “age and demography”. She leads the special area “Future issues of health care”. Thanks to her unerring efforts and commitment, the funds granted by the Foundation were instrumental in establishing the basic framework for developing research structures and foci (for instance, nursing education for the health care of tomorrow). Since the early 90’s she has also acted as a catalyst for political dialogue between research, polity and the practice – a dialogue in which the University of Bremen took active part at her side. Her unwavering support for a multitude of research projects underscored her services to the discipline of nursing studies and strengthened her ties to the University of Bremen. On the international level, she initiated a number of cooperation projects with institutions abroad, in particular in Eastern and Southern Europe This frequently entailed the participation of Bremen faculty and contributed greatly to our University’s efforts in the area of internationalization.
“All in all, Dr. Almut Satrapa-Schill has made a unique contribution to nursing studies and research at the University of Bremen which remains unparalleled by any other person outside the University itself. Her achievements will continue to impact on future developments in the field. With her support, for instance, it has been possible to blueprint an Agenda 2020 for Care Research along the lines of the Swiss role model. The Agenda lays down the central research topics of the next ten years and is designed to promote discourse on the thematic area of nursing science within the fields of research, social and health policy. Here, too, the University of Bremen intends to play a proactive role”, stresses StefanGörres.
