Application Phase Open: Bremen University Award for Outstanding Teaching

For the third time, Bremen State is handing out the Bremen University Award for Outstanding Teaching. The prize aims to make the great significance of university teaching visible and create an incentive for further dedication and support in this area.

The quality of teaching is a central characteristic of top-level universities. The award is intended to highlight the outstanding importance of university teaching for the scientific location and at the same time create a career-effective incentive to become even more involved in university teaching and to support it beyond one's own area of activity.

The prize is awarded for outstanding and innovative achievements in structural development, teaching and assessment, as well as the counseling and supervision of students at a university in Bremen and is endowed with a total of 40,000 euros. The prize is awarded in two categories. The state of Bremen provides a prize of 25,000 euros in the category "Curricular Innovations and Team Teaching" and a prize of 15,000 euros in the category "Teaching and Skills Transfer". The award from the Senator for the Environment, Climate, and Science is presented every two years.

Who Can Apply?

The call for applications for the prize in the "Curricular Innovations and Team Teaching" category is aimed exclusively at working groups and organizational units at Bremen's four state universities. The call for applications for the award in the "Teaching and Skills Transfer" category is aimed exclusively at teaching staff members of the four state universities in Bremen as individuals.

How Are the Winners Chosen?

The working group, organizational units, or individuals apply directly to the Senator for the Environment, Climate, and Science. When submitting the application documents, it must be indicated whether it is an individual or a working group application. There is no pre-selection of applications by the respective university management.

The applications submitted will be reviewed and assessed by the jury appointed by the Senator for the Environment, Climate, and Science. The jury is made up of the respective university management teams and students from the universities in Bremen and Bremerhaven, external evaluators, and a representative of the Senator for the Environment, Climate, and Science. Active jury members may not apply for the Bremen University Award. Former jury members may only apply for the award once two years have passed since their departure from the board.
