New Grant-making Trust for the University of Bremen

Granting stipends and supporting scholarly meetings and research projects are the principle aims of the recently-formed Manfred and Ursula-Fluß Trust. Manfred and Ursula Fluß, longstanding supporters and sponsors of the University of Bremen, recently agreed on the statutes and concluded a trust deed with the chairman of the University of Bremen Foundation, Dr. Martin Mehrtens.

“I feel personally connected with the University of Bremen in many ways”, says Manfred Fluß, former Senator for Finance and member of the Bremen Parliament. “From the beginning I actively accompanied it on its way to becoming a university of excellence”. In setting up the new Trust he and his wife also wish to express recognition for the pivotal contributions made by the University’s former Rectors, Professor Jürgen Timm und Professor Wilfried Müller. In the opinion of Manfred and Ursula Fluß, “There can be no doubt that it was mainly due to them that the University of Bremen received the accolade ‘University of Excellence’”.

The couple was already among the founders of the University of Bremen Foundation in 2012. “It only seemed logical to take a further step and make a personal long-term commitment to the University by setting up our own Trust”. The Manfred and Ursula-Fluß trust is the second to have been set up under the umbrella of the University of Bremen Foundation, the first being the Kellner & Stoll Trust for Climate and Environment.

Prof. Bernd Scholz-Reiter, Rector of the University of Bremen and member of the Board of Trustees governing the new Trust is full of praise for the University’s loyal supporters: “I know Manfred Fluß is deeply committed to advancing science and scholarship and I have learned to value his personal advice. I’m therefore especially pleased that he and his wife have found a way to continue their commitment to the University in future years.”
