University of Bremen: Leading the Way on the Road to Sustainability

The University of Bremen has been nominated for the German Sustainability Award (DNP). It is Europe's biggest award for ecological and social commitment. The prize will be awarded on November 23, in Düsseldorf.

In cooperation with the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the German Sustainability Award Foundation will for the first time honor particularly exemplary companies from 100 industries. "There are successful solutions to the pressing challenges of sustainability in all industries. Now it is a matter of taking them to a wider audience in order to accelerate and strengthen the necessary transformation," explains the German Sustainability Award Foundation.

"The expert jury for the German Sustainability Award sees our university as a pioneer for change in education and research, and I fully agree. I am delighted that our work for more sustainability is also being so clearly noticed on a national level," states Professor Jutta Günther, President of the University of Bremen.

"Nomination is a huge achievement"

The Bremen Senator for the Environment, Climate, and Science, Kathrin Moosdorf, is also pleased about this resonance: "The fact alone that the University of Bremen has been nominated for the German Sustainability Award is a huge achievement. It is proof that the university has made an outstanding contribution to our climate, our resources, and our nature. The University of Bremen shows: Science, climate, and the environment are a good combination, as this is how sustainable solutions for a future worth living are created."

In addition to the University of Bremen, nine other universities nationwide were nominated: the Technische Universität München, the Freie Universität Berlin, the universities of Hamburg, Kassel, Lüneburg, and Oldenburg, as well as the Eberswalde University of Applied Sciences for Sustainable Development, the Trier University of Applied Sciences, and the Nordakademie Hochschule der Wirtschaft.
