Top US Researcher Is Guest at the University

His research stay at the University of Bremen provides further evidence of the outstanding quality of research carried out by the Research Group Computer Architecture (AGRA) in the Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science: For some months now, Professor Kaushik Roy has been working with the Bremen AGRA team led by Professor Rolf Drechsler. Professor Roy is a recipient of the Research Prize awarded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation worth € 60,000.

Pionier in the area of low power design

Professor Kaushik Roy is regarded as a pioneer in the area of low power design for electronic  circuits and systems. He obtained his doctorate (PhD) in 1990  from the US University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for work on the design of testable electronic circuits. Following this, he worked for a time at Texas Instruments, Dallas (USA), where he made pioneering contributions to improving the design of programmable logic and low power circuits. This put him far ahead of his times. Already in the 1990s he was one of the first people to publish research on the principle of low power design. In the meanwhile, Professor Kaushik Roy has published profusely and he has received several “Best Paper” awards.

Only the very best researchers receive the Humboldt Research Prize

The Humboldt Foundation in Bonn awards its Research Prize to outstanding scientists and scholars from abroad whose fundamental discoveries, insights or new theories have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in future. The award winners are subsequently invited to choose their own research project in Germany and to work in cooperation with members of their discipline for a period of up to one year. You can read more about this under http://www.humboldt-foundation.de.

Professor Kaushik Roy, renowned computer expert from the US Purdue University, will be holding a public lecture on his research work at the University of Bremen. The Research Group Computer Architecture invites all interested persons to attend. The lecture will be held in the English language on Thursday 7th July at 4 p.m. in the Rotunde im Cartesium on the University campus (Enrique-Schmidt-Straße 5). If you wish to attend, please register by 30th June 2011 under www.informatik.uni-bremen.de/agra/humboldt. The event is kindly being funded by the Humboldt Foundation.
