Cooperative junior research groups were created in the frame of the Excellence Initiative launched by the Federal Government and the Länder. Set up at the interface of the University with its partner non-university research institutes, they serve to promote young academics as well as research cooperation. Junior research groups have access to the equipment and infrastructures of the University as well as its respective partner institute.
The groups are independent units led by an outstanding young talent. Leaders of junior research groups in Bremen can receive the title of professor and corresponding rights. With these independent junior research groups, the University of Bremen positions itself as an internationally recognized breeding ground for talent, offering attractive positions between the doctorate and a tenured professorship.
