Our actions during the Covid-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic is changing the lives of people all over the world. It is changing the way we work, the way we learn, and the way we live. Naturally, the pandemic also has its effects on the Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) Alliance.

YUFE aims at building a young, student-centred, non-elitist, open and inclusive European University. One of its key components will be the physical, blended and virtual mobility of students and staff. Restrictions on movement and gathering enforced all over Europe in this moment emphasises the importance of online education opportunities. Rather than mainly focusing on the time after Covid-19 – when physical mobility will be possible again - the YUFE Alliance has decided to put increased emphasis on its Virtual Campus. This online platform will virtually connect citizen, students and staff all over Europe. The hope is to reap the benefits of this already shortly and further strengthen the online resources that all academic institutions in YUFE have already put in pace since they have had to move their classes online swiftly. Through these combined efforts, YUFE is determined to reach its goal of having the first YUFE students starting in the AY 2020/2021.

The daily work towards our European University is guided by the needs and interests of students and staff, as much as possible. In consultation with the YUFE partners, students, governments and other European University Alliances, we try to formulate accessible solutions and answers to the many questions people have. There are no 'manuals' or 'guidelines' that we can fall back on in this exceptional situation. It is challenging working together across borders without being able to meet face-to-face for such an extended period of time. However, the commitment of everyone working on YUFE is shining through, with an abundance of virtual meetings, which allows us to move forward in a coordinated and efficient way. This, with the unique sense of community students and staff generate are allowing us to build activities and solutions we hope to share with you in the upcoming months.

Mobility among YUFE Universities

As a result of the YUFE activities of recent months many students and employees at Bremen University would like to know more about our partner universities.

As soon as the current restrictions caused by the corona virus can be removed, it will be possible to travel to YUFE universities or YUFE cities again in order to teach, to study, to carry out internships, or to work in administration and technology. In the meantime, we try to develop as many online learning opportunities as possible.

On the following pages you will find more information about our future mobility offers.

The Rectorate informs & YUFE Café - Summary of the results

On 15 October 2019 the Rectorate of our University invited to the event "The Rectorate informs & YUFE Café“. We were very pleased that so many of you discussed and developed your ideas together with us. Thank you very much for all positive feedback. You will find a first evaluation on these pages.

Here we go: YUFE gets started!

On 1 December 2019 we celebrated the official project launch of YUFE - Young Universities of the Future of Europe. We have got big plans for the next three years. Within this period the EU Commission will fund our project with 5 million Euros. You will get an overview on both our pages at Bremen University and on https://www.yufe.eu/

What we stand for:

YUFE is a network of young and innovative universities. Our goal is the development of a European university, open to all, inclusive and participative. YUFE is student-centred. Students are at the centre of our activities and play a key role in shaping our development.

European career paths are open to all status groups of the member universities, whether experienced scientists, early career researchers or university members from management and administration.

YUFE stands for a close connection to the regions. All universities work together with companies, civil society organisations and local government and administration with the aim to live the European idea together.

In four focus areas we design the "Student Journey", career paths and projects with the non-university partners on site.

European Identity

YUFE stands for a united and democratic Europe. We train our graduates to become responsibly thinking and acting European citizens. Teaching and research contents are oriented towards this goal and contribute to the dissemination of the European idea.

Citizens Well-Being

YUFE contributes to a safe and prosperous society in Europe. Questions of social security, democracy research or the assumption of social and global responsibility are only some of the topics that we address in research and teaching in order to contribute to a secure and sustainable shaping of European societies.

Digital Societies

Digitization is increasingly influencing our lives in all areas. This involves not only opportunities, but also challenges and risks. One of the tasks YUFE has set itself is to shape the opportunities and to contribute to overcoming the challenges with research and teaching.

Sustainability

Sustainability: Sustainability and climate protection are the major challenges facing global society. YUFE wants to find European answers to these questions and contribute to a sustainable shaping of our future.

YUFE Student Journey

YUFE enables all students to have a European study experience.
Whether through a semester abroad, individual modules, a summer course, a joint project or language learning: YUFE students receive these European study elements recognised with their degree, their certificate distinguishes them as Europeans.
