YUFE - Young Universities for the Future of Europe

Alongside the University of Bremen, the universities Maastricht (coordinator), Antwerp, Carlos III Madrid, Eastern Finland, Essex, Roma Tor Vergata and Cyprus are part of the alliance. Over 50 networks handed in applications and 17 will be financed by the EU with 5 Mio Euro each.

The YUFE Alliance of these eight young researchoriented universities, together with its six associated partners, has set itself the goal of leading to a radical change in European higher education by establishing itself as the leading model of a young, student-centred, non-elite, open and inclusive European university. YUFE connects universities with society and promotes cooperation between higher education institutions, the public and private sectors and citizens across Europe.

What we stand for:

YUFE is a network of young and innovative universities. Our goal is the development of a European university, open to all, inclusive and participative. YUFE is student-centred. Students are at the centre of our activities and play a key role in shaping our development.

European career paths are open to all status groups of the member universities, whether experienced scientists, early career researchers or university members from management and administration.

YUFE stands for a close connection to the regions. All universities work together with companies, civil society organisations and local government and administration with the aim to live the European idea together.

In 4 streams we design the "Student Journey", career paths and projects with the non-university partners on site.

European Identity

YUFE stands for a united and democratic Europe. We train our graduates to become responsibly thinking and acting European citizens. Teaching and research contents are oriented towards this goal and contribute to the dissemination of the European idea.

Citizens Well-Being

YUFE contributes to a safe and prosperous society in Europe. Questions of social security, democracy research or the assumption of social and global responsibility are only some of the topics that we address in research and teaching in order to contribute to a secure and sustainable shaping of European societies.

Digital Societies

Digitization is increasingly influencing our lives in all areas. This involves not only opportunities, but also challenges and risks. One of the tasks YUFE has set itself is to shape the opportunities and to contribute to overcoming the challenges with research and teaching.

Sustainability

Sustainability: Sustainability and climate protection are the major challenges facing global society. YUFE wants to find European answers to these questions and contribute to a sustainable shaping of our future.

YUFE Student Journey

YUFE enables all students to have a European study experience.
Whether through a semester abroad, individual modules, a summer course, a joint project or language learning: YUFE students receive these European study elements recognised with their degree, their certificate distinguishes them as Europeans.

YUFE Staff Journey

Researchers, teachers and members of administration and management can pursue careers across national borders.
YUFE enables shorter and longer teaching, research and observation periods at the partner universities and, with the YUFE Tenure Track, a European career option for academic and non-academic employees.

Innovation und Entrepreneurship

Through partnerships with stakeholders in the region, YUFE Universities contribute to the Smart Specialisation Strategy of their region, creating a unique pool of knowledge and insight, experience and best practice models for students, academics, businesses and citizens.

YUFE in our Cities

YUFE connects 150,000 students, 25,000 employees and 10 million citizens in the "YUFE cities". The aim is to find joint solutions to the challenges on site and in Europe through a close partnership between universities and civil societies.

Diversity and Inclusion

YUFE Universities are committed to the goals of diversity and inclusion. All our activities are inclusive and designed to meet a wide range of needs.

Sustainability

The YUFE European University is a long-term vision. All our measures are aimed at working and existing beyond project funding. Creating a truly European university takes time, but above all it requires the support of all stakeholders.
