Coverage of childcare costs outside of business hours

Our Offer

1) Coverage of childcare costs outside of business hours

The program addresses early career researchers in the qualification phase (doctoral students, postdocs and junior professors) at the University of Bremen with children aged 0 to 12. A private caregiver, probably from the caregiver register (KLEX 3), cares for the children in the parent’s home. This offer is only valid for professional occasions that take place outside of the opening hours of the regular childcare facility (nursery, kindergarten, school…).

What does KLEX offer?

  • Reimbursement/payment of the costs for caregiving during an official occasion outside of business hours.
  • Parents can receive a subsidy of up to 200 € per family per year through Uni KLEX.
  • If no caregiver is available, a request can be made via the caregiver register (KLEX 3) no later than two weeks in advance of event.

Procedure

  1. Parents fill in online form for coverage of childcare costs at least one week before the event.
  2. The equal opportunities office checks the request and gives feedback regarding the reimbursement prior to the event.
  3. The caregivers fill in the KLEX invoice form, which is submitted to KLEX together with the form for cost reimbursement by the parents. In case the costs are covered by a coordinated DFG programme, the caregiver sends the invoice form to KLEX and will be paid by the university directly.

Conditions for care at home

  • Parents should register the caregiver as a “domestic help” in their household with the Minijobzentrale (minijob centre) this includes an accident insurance. Further information can be found at: http://www.minijob-zentrale.de.

  • Caregiver via the caregiver register (KLEX 3)

  • We suggest to arrange a get-together with caregiver, parents and child(ren) prior to the event.

In individual cases, the annual amount may be exceeded. However, this requires timely contact and an informal letter of justification from the supervisor.
The costs for care during private occasions are of course to be borne by the parents.

The Equal Opportunities Office checks whether the request is within the scope of the support provided by the university. If the requested subsidy exceeds the annual maximum amount of 200 € per family, the request must be supported by the supervisor.

The caregivers fill in the KLEX invoice form, which is submitted to KLEX together with the form for cost reimbursement by the parents.

In case the cost are covered by a coordinated DFG programme, the caregiver sends the invoice form to KLEX and will be paid by the university directly.
