Fraunhofer-Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology IWES
The Fraunhofer IWES secures investments in technological advances through validation, shortens innovation cycles, accelerates certification processes and increases planning accuracy by innovative measuring methods in the area of wind energy. At present, 150 scientists and 70 students are employed at four locations: Bremerhaven, Hanover, Bremen and Oldenburg. In 2015 the household was 15 million euros.
Thanks to far-reaching support policy support, unique test stands, e.g. For rotor blades, gondolas and bearing structures, bearings and bending shafts, as well as a measuring infrastructure and laboratories. The test portfolio was developed in close collaboration with leading industrial companies, who accompanied the development of test methods and sequences from the conceptual phase. The combination of a world-wide unique test infrastructure with methodological competence marks IWES Nordwest as a research partner for companies all over the world. Through its participation in international expert committees, the institute is an active pioneer of technology development and quality assurance in the wind industry.
The development and optimization of wind power plants requires knowledge from a wide range of natural and engineering sciences. The competences of 600 researchers are combined in the Windenergie (FVWE), consisting of the partners DLR, ForWind - Center for Wind Energy Research and Fraunhofer IWES.
