Bachelor & Master
Bachelor's and Master's are tiered degrees that are internationally recognized. The Bachelor is a first university degree program with duration of 6 to 8 semesters. Holders of a bachelor’s degree can decide whether they want to start a career directly or take up a mostly 4-semester master's program. The total duration of studies up to the award of a master's degree is 10 semesters. Completion of a B.Ed. and M.Ed. is a prerequisite in order to enter the teaching profession.
The tiered study system has a number of advantages. After completing a relatively short period of undergraduate studies, students obtain a professional qualification, their degree is internationally recognized, and great emphasis is placed on acquiring generic competences that can be helpful in later careers.

Bachelor’s Degrees
There are five different Bachelor profiles at the University of Bremen. On the one hand, the Bachelor is offered as a full-time Bachelor or as a two-subject Bachelor profile. On the other hand, the University of Bremen offers a Bachelor of Education High School (2 subjects), a Bachelor of Education Elementary / Inclusive Education (2 large subjects, 1 small subject) and a Bachelor of Education / inclusive Education High School (2 subjects).
Depending on the discipline, you can acquire the following titles :
Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with a full or specialized subject in the humanities, languages, arts, arts and social sciences as well as in a study course with
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with full or specialized subject in mathematics, Psychology, the natural sciences, engineering and economics as well as in a study teaching high school / high school with two scientific subjects
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in the jurisprudence
Both the single-subject Bachelor and the two-subject Bachelor degree have a general occupational focus, which means that they do not train for any specific profession, as is the case for example with the Bachelor of Education or law.
While as a student on a single-subject bachelor's program you study one subject, a two-subject bachelor's course will cover a profile subject and complementary subject. The main emphasis lies on the “profile” subject (about 2/3 of studies; complementary subject 1/3). A profile subject can be combined with any of the complementary subjects offered. When choosing your complementary subject, pay attention to the information on non-overlapping courses.
The acquisition of generic competences that can be helpful in later careers plays a major role in this type of Bachelor program. These are summarized as so-called General Studies (GS). Educational science and subject didactics play an important role in the curricula of teacher training .

After the bachelor studies
The Bachelor's degree opens up various possibilities:
- Direct transition to employment in business, industry, associations or public service
- Admission to a one to two-year master's degree program with the award of Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Arts (M.A.) or Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees
- Admission to a one- to two-year master's program with the award of Master of Education (M.Ed.)
Master
Master's programs are three- to four-semester post-graduate courses that require a bachelor's degree to be admitted to studies. Master students acquire in-depth knowledge either in specific specialization areas of their previous (consecutive) degree program or in new fields of knowledge. The master's degree is an internationally recognized career qualification. Graduates can also move on to take up a doctorate as a further step towards an academic career path.
Between the Bachelor's degree and taking up a master's degree, there may also be periods of employment. Thus, individual educational paths with both employment as well as periods of study are possible. Depending on the focus, the Master distinguishes between more research- or application-oriented study programs. Master programs providing further education require qualified practical professional experience.
