Systems Engineering (Master)

Nowadays many technical products are highly equipped with embedded and control components. The awareness and importance of the software and hardware co-design is increasing and technical products have to be planned as one integrated system from the very beginning. Therefore, a discipline combining the knowledge of electrical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering is becoming essential in engineering and the need for qualifications in the three mention fields arises following the goal of interdisciplinary system development thus forming successful individuals.

Right from the beginning of their study students learn to observe a technical system holistically as one unit, they learn interdisciplinary ways of observing systems. They study in an interdisciplinary working environment from the very start.

Study description

The master's degree programs Systems Engineering I + II at the University of Bremen are supported by three faculties:

  • Faculty 01: Physics / Electrical Engineering,
  • Faculty 03: Mathematics / Computer Science, and
  • Faculty 04: Production Engineering – Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering (leading faculty).

Thus, the interdisciplinary study programme offers qualifications in the three basic disciplines of electrical engineering, computer science and production/mechanical engineering. It gives the students an opportunity to apply and expand their theoretical knowledge of the three basic disciplines with specific knowledge and skills in four different specialization areas:

  • Automation and robotics,
  • Embedded systems and system software,
  • Mechatronics, and
  • Production engineering.

The master´s programmes Systems Engineering I and II comprise a total of 90 or 120 CP distributed over 3 or 4 semesters.
