Program-specific requirements

First-year students attend introductory courses into Political and Cultural European Studies and the Techniques of Academic Work. The second year builds on these courses. The third year of studies, supplemented with a semester abroad in the fifth semester, serves the individual specialisation combined with course electives.
From the beginning of their studies, students learn both the politological as well as the cultural foundations of their subject. An integrated study phase puts these theories and methods to the practical test by means of concrete case studies. The students also receive three semesters of language training in Russian, Polish, French or Spanish.

The courses prepare students for a wide choice of careers, ranging from political institutions involved with the European Union to institutions in the cultural field. The career perspectives for graduates with a politological profile include in particular occupations as analysts, special consultants and public relations specialists in trade organisations, government ministries, EU agencies, and in business, as well as international management consultancy in the European area. Graduates with a cultural profile find career opportunities in particular in culture management, cultural exchange, journalism, tourism, refugee organisations or associated areas of business and politics. Additional opportunities exist in archiving, foundations and language instruction.
