When is enrollment terminated?

There are several ways in which student status at the University of Bremen can be terminated.

Because you completed your degree

If you have successfully passed all necessary exams and have completed your degree, your examination office will inform the Student Office accordingly. Your enrollment will then be terminated by the Student Office at the end of the semester in which we received this examination notification. You will be provided with a degree withdrawal certificate as well as a certificate for the statutory pension insurance. You can access these via the moin-portal. If you urgently need the degree withdrawal certificate, please apply to withdraw yourself.

Because of definitively failed exams

The Student Office receives notification from your examination office about passed or definitively failed exams. You will then be dismissed by the Student Office at the end of the semester (31.03./30.09.) in which the Student Office receives the notification from the examination office. A corresponding certificate or notice of being dismissed as well as a document for the statutory pension insurance can be accessed via the moin-portal.

If you urgently need the degree withdrawal certificate, you should apply to withdraw yourself.

At your own request

You apply to withdraw from studies, indicating when you wish to be removed from the student register (retroactively is not possible), and receive your degree withdrawal certificate and a certificate for the statutory pension insurance from the Student Office. You can retrieve these certificates via the moin portal.

Please note that an application to withdraw from studies may have effects on your health insurance or the payments of child benefits, BAföG etc.

Forced withdrawal due to failure to re-register

You do not re-register on time (deadlines: February 15./ August 15). You receive a reminder and ignore it. Your withdrawal follows and you will receive a degree withdrawal certificate and a certificate for the pension insurance, which will be made available to you via the moin-portal.

How long can students of the University of Bremen use the university internet access, university email, SuUB and PABO after withdrawing?

After you withdraw from studies, you can continue to use your university account for another 18 months with limited permissions (e.g. no VPN). After 18 months, your data will be deleted. In advance, you will receive three e-mails with information about the blocking and deletion of your account. To continue using your university account, you can become a member of the Alumni Association.

If you are still enrolled as a student, you can have your ID card extended by one year at the SuUB. Then, despite having withdrawn, you can continue to use the services of the library on site for another year. However, as soon as you withdraw from studies, you can no longer use the services associated with the university VPN. Among other things, it is then no longer possible to access certain literature databases from home.

Even if your enrollment at the University of Bremen has been withdrawn, exam results from the previous semester will be entered in PABO. Up to 18 months after withdrawal from studies, you can access examination results and transcripts of records via PABO.

I will soon complete my bachelor's degree at the University of Bremen and would like to start a master's program at the University of Bremen. How long should I stay enrolled in the bachelor's program?

In principle, you will remain enrolled in the Bachelor until the end of the semester in which your last coursework was completed and the corresponding grade was entered in PABO.
Especially if you are not sure that all CPs necessary for the completion of the bachelor's degree can be entered in PABO at the end of the semester, you should re-register for the bachelor's program by 15.08 / 15.02.
This way, you will not lose your student status if your bachelor's degree is not fully completed before the first master's semester and at the very latest by two weeks after the semester begins. If you cannot provide proof of completing your bachelor's degree by two weeks after the start of the semester, you will remain enrolled in the bachelor's program at the University of Bremen.

I will soon complete my bachelor's degree at the University of Bremen and would like to start a master's program at another university. How long should I stay enrolled in the bachelor's program?

The conditions relevant for your admission to the master's degree program at another university are determined by the receiving universities. Therefore, inquire about them at your new university.

Normally, your enrollment will end at the conclusion of the semester in which you passed the last examination of your studies. The respective examination office enters the result in PABO and notifies the Secretariat for Students (SfS) of your graduation. After receiving this notification, the SfS will terminate your enrollment at the end of the semester. If you start at another university, e.g. for the winter semester, you will usually remain enrolled at the University of Bremen until September 30 and will then be enrolled at the new university as of October 1. According to the Bremen Higher Education Act, simultaneous enrollment at two universities is not possible.

If, for example, the receiving university requires a degree withdrawal certificate, it makes sense to have this certificate ahead of time and to apply for it early. Note that you can also apply to withdraw from studies at a future date. For enrollment in the master's program at other universities, complete performance records are often expected. Even if you have already terminated enrollment at Bremen University, exam results from the previous semester will be entered into PABO. Up to 18 months after your withdrawal from studies, you can retrieve examination results and transcripts of records via PABO.
