We are looking for a mathematician representing the field of mathematical modelling with (typically partial) differential equations and their analysis as well as numerical solution. The appointed person will independently advance this field with his or her teaching, research, and applications.
We are searching for a personality with extensive experience in the field of modelling and simulation of application problems with a clear reference to method and algorithm development.

The professorship is part of the Center for Industrial Mathematics. Therefore it shall support and develop independently the Center's many research collaborations, in particular in the "MAPEX Center for Materials and Processes", as well as industrial partnerships. These collaboration activities include raising of third-party funds. The candidate is also expected to get involved with the DFG Research Training Group „π3: Parameter Identification - Analysis, Algorithms, Applications“.

In addition to research productivity and obtaining third-party funded collaborations, other tasks include teaching in the degree programs Mathematics and Industrial Mathematics as well as participating in service courses for degree programs in the natural and engineering sciences. A willingness to offer courses in English and, after at most three years, in German is expected. German language skills are not absolutely necessary at the time of hiring.

In addition to fulfilling the general hiring requirements for civil servants in Germany, the ideal candidate is expected to have a completed mathematical university degree, an outstanding doctoral degree in mathematics, a State doctorate (German ‘Habilitation’) or equivalent achievements, proven by scientific performance with international visibility, and some experience in teaching at a university (i.e. pedagogical eligibility) as well as in acquiring third-party funds. The appointment to this professorship will take place according to §18 of the BremHG (Bremen Higher Education Law) and § 116 BremBG (Bremen Civil Service Law).
