The special quality of the Institute for Art History – Film Studies – Art Education at the University of Bremen lies in the cooperation between the fields of art studies, film studies, art education, visual culture and aesthetic practice. Common to all subject areas is an integrative approach to art and image mediation in research and teaching, which is based on aesthetic perception and sensory experience, flanked by interdisciplinary cultural studies-theory.

Methodologically, the subject areas are linked by a project-oriented approach to the fields of Art – Media – Aesthetic education, documented in the digital teaching platform of the IKFK (https://blogs.uni-bremen.de/ikfklehre/).

In research and teaching, the future holder of the position is expected to apply and convey empirical methods and findings on teaching and learning in the subject of art as well as theories and practices of an innovative and critical examination of (contemporary) art in schools and in the context of exhibitions and museums. Skills and knowledge of the use and research-oriented further development of digital concepts in school and extracurricular art education contexts are required.

The successful candidate is expected to cooperate with the Department of Cultural Studies and participate in interdisciplinary research, for example in the Centre for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZfLB). Collaboration with art museums, municipal collections of the Hanseatic City of Bremen and its regions is encouraged, e. g. with the Center for Artists' Publications in the Weserburg Museum. A cooperation with the University of Bremen’s interdisciplinary Centre for Performance Studies is also desired, as well as active participation in the internationalization and international networking of the field of expertise, e.g. through participation in the interdisciplinary English-language BA degree program “Environmental Humanities”, which is currently in the planning stage.
