University President begins second period of office

“The main objective I have set myself for my second period of office will be to build on the successful achievements to date in the areas of teaching and research”, says the President of the University of Bremen, Bernd Scholz-Reiter, who now is to lead the University for another five years. A most important aspect during this second period will be the approaching developments connected with Excellence Initiative of the Federal Government and the Länder for promoting science and research at German universities. Bremen’s Senator for Science, Professor Eva Quante-Brandt commented: “It’s good to know that Professor Scholz-Reiter will be holding the reins for another five years and that we will be able meet the forthcoming challenges together”.

Cooperation and participation

Scholz-Reiter reiterated his commitment to a strong research university and stated he will expand cooperation with the numerous non-university partners. The most recent example for this form of collaboration is the “U Bremen Research Alliance”. The University President also stressed his faith in a community-spirited institution, quoting a case in point: The University Strategy 2018 to 2028. In this regard, Professor Scholz-Reiter recently opened an online dialogue with all members of the University. He underlined his approach, saying, “The strategy paves the way for the direction our University will take in future. It is therefore important to know that it rests on a broad foundation of consent”. Other important tasks to be dealt with in the coming years include strengthening the internationalization process in the University’s degree programs as well as research-based teaching and digitalization in teaching and research.
