Vita

Since April 2019, Dr. Stephan O. Görland works as a Post-Doc-Researcher at the Center for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen. 

Previously, He studied journalism and communication sciences in Vienna between 20015 and 2011. Afterwards he moved to the University of Rostock (2012-2019) as a research assistant. He was member in the DFG project „Mediated Time"", in which he investigated the transformation of time perception and time practices through mobile media. In 2016 he was also member at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM) at the Humboldt-Universität of Berlin, where he analyzed the smartphone use in forced migration processes, an project funded by the German Federal Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration. Stephan O. Görland received his doctorate in 2018 with a dissertation on the accelerated perception of time in waiting and transit times through the smartphone (rated Summa Cum Laude). 

Research Interests 

His research focusses primarily on three areas: First, on the transformation of time through the use of new media. Secondly, the media appropriation of fugitives and diaspora groups in Germany. And finally with new forms of computer-mediated communication through communicative robots.
