Vita

Prof. Dr. habil. Sigrid Kannengießer was Professor for Media and Communication Studies with a focus on Media Society and a member of the artec Sustainability Research Center as well as the Bremen Research Centre for Energy Systems (BEST) until summer semester 2022.

Before, she was scientific manager of artec and Postdoc at ZeMKI with a project on “Consumption Critical Media Practices“ funded by the Central Research Development Fund of the University of Bremen.

She wrote her second book (Habilitation) on “Sustainability and Digital Media“ and her PhD thesis, which was funded by the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation and awarded the Bremen Study Prize, on a translocal network of women’s organizations and empowerment projects in Southern Africa.

After studying Media Culture and Political Science at the University of Bochum and the University of Hamburg, she was research associate at the University of Hamburg and the Center for Transnational Studies of the Universities of Bremen and Oldenburg. She also graduated from the program "Virtual Intercultural Gender Studies" at the University of Hagen.

Sigrid Kannengießer is co-editor of the series Critical Studies in Media and Communication, published by transcript Verlag, and the series Medien - Kultur - Kommunikation, published by Springer VS. She was spokesperson of the DGPuK specialist group Sociology of Media Communication (2017-2019) and previously deputy spokesperson (2015-2017).
