Born in 1965 in Bremen, Abitur (university entrance qualification)/civil service in Bremen, toolmaker apprenticeship in Hamburg and historical studies at the Historische Seminar of the University of Hamburg. Student assistant at the Seminar and at the State and University Library Hamburg Carl von Ossietzky, student and research assistant at the Institut für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte (Institute of Social and Economic History). 1997-99 practical training and employment at the Zeise-Verlag and Ellert & Richter Verlag and doctorate from the University of Hamburg. 1999-2000 assistant in the History Department at the University of Bremen with a lectureship. Move back to Hamburg to the Hoffmann & Campe Verlag from 2000-03 (in parallel a lectureship at the University of Hamburg) and from 2004-13 editor at Edition Temmen. Since 2013 consultant at the Landesinstitut für Schule/Zentrum für Medien (State Institute of Education/Centre for Media) and director of the Landesfilmarchiv (State Film Archive).
