Mac OS X 10.7+

Instructions for setting up WLAN access under Mac OS X from 10.7 (Lion)

Note

Please note that the following instructions describe how to set up the Eduroam network using the CAT configuration tool.

When prompted for user data, be case-sensitive and enter your username (not an alias) including @uni-bremen.de.

If you prefer manual setup, you will find manual setup instructions further down this page.

If there is a problem, please contact us by e-mail at wlan@uni-bremen.de.

Preset

If you have already installed a profile file for eduroam on your Mac OS device, you must delete it before setting it up. To do this, go to System Preferences -> Profiles and delete all profiles for eduroam by selecting them and clicking the Minus button. (You will need your personal password for the Mac).

You should also delete existing connections to the eduroam network. Go to System Preferences - Network - Wlan - Other Options - select the eduroam network (if available) and remove it with the minus button.

Step 0

To connect to the Eduroam WLAN you need an Eduroam Wlan profile file for your MacOS X device, which you can download and install via the Uni-Bremen WLAN or alternatively via mobile data e.g. via a hotspot (then continue from step 3).

Step 1

Click on the "Wi-Fi" icon and turn on the wireless LAN. Now select the WLAN "Uni-Bremen".

Step 2

Now the minimal browser of the MacOS X device opens, just close it. Then check if you are connected to the "Uni Bremen" WLAN.

Step 3

Start Safari and open the page wlan.uni-bremen.de/cat

Step 4

Check the information and confirm with the blue button "Download your eduroam installation program".

Step 5

You will be forwarded directly to the download, which is usually done automatically. If not click on
"If you have problems with the automatic download, please use this link."

Step 8

The settings open and show the downloaded profile. Click on "Continue" to install the profile.

Step 7

Now enter your user name in the form username@uni-bremen.de and the corresponding WLAN password.

Step 8

Confirm the installation process by entering your device password.

Step 9

The profile has been successfully installed, the connection to the eduroam network can now be established.

Troubleshooting

If no connection is established, this can have various causes:

  •  Your MacOS system is not up to date
  • If there is no access point with the eduroam network nearby, the location must be changed.
  • If there is still an old profile file on your device, you must first remove it. Open the system settings and navigate to the point Profiles. Now select the old "eduroam" profile and click on the "Minus" icon below. Confirm the information dialog by clicking on "Remove" and entering your device password.
