His diploma thesis received one of the main prizes at the German Mathematical Society’s Student Conference in 2005. He completed his PhD at the TU Dortmund and habilitated there in 2016. His research concentrates on adaptive finite element methods for non-smooth problems, as sometimes occur in the modelling of deepholedrilling processes. Within inter- disciplinary cooperations, the developed methods are applied to the simulation and optimal controlling of comparable technical production processes.
