Prior to this, Dirk Lorenz held a professorship at TU Braunschweig for almost 15 years. Lorenz studied mathematics at the University of Bremen, where he received his PhD in mathematics in 2005. He has always been interested in what the subject allows one to understand and do. Professor Lorenz researches among other topics the methods of optimization, which can be used in many areas – for example, in image processing, in solutions for optimal control, and in machine learning.
