Dear applicants,

Thank you for your interest in the scholarship program of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. We are happy to advise and support you with your application. Detailed information on the application process and the required documents can be found here.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bremen and accompanying you on your research journey.

Information about the scholarship program

While academic freedom is constitutionally guaranteed in Germany, the reality in many other countries is unfortunately different. The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and the University of Bremen view this global development with great concern and are actively committed to promoting academic freedom worldwide. In order to help endangered scholars, the Ministry for Environment, Climate and Science of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen supports the continuation of their work through financial assistance. This enables you to continue and further develop your research in a safe environment at the University of Bremen.

In 2024, two postdoctoral scholarships for researchers  will be offered for a period of up to 12 months.
A one-time extension for a second year is possible.

The monthly funding amount is € 2,000 plus family allowances.
