Intercultural competence is one of the most important key qualifications for moving confidently in international contexts. In the Intercultural Training, participants learn methods, exercises and theories that facilitate intercultural communication and sensitize them to cultural conflict situations. Doch aktuell erleben wir weltweit und auch in Deutschland einen massiven Rückgang an Biodiversität. Ursachen sind unter anderem Lebensraumverlust durch Bebauung und Intensivlandwirtschaft, Umweltverschmutzung, Klimawandel und die Ausbreitung invasiver Arten. Aus diesen Entwicklungen erwachsen dringende Notwendigkeiten für Schutz- und Erhaltungsmaßnahmen – lokal wie global.
In diesem Projektseminar erkunden wir zentrale Orte urbaner Biodiversität in Bremen: von naturnah gestalteten Gärten über innerstädtische Naturschutzgebiete bis hin zu ökologisch wertvollen Brachflächen. In Zusammenarbeit mit Praxispartner*innen wie dem BUND, NABU, der Landesjägerschaft Bremen und weiteren Initiativen lernen die Studierenden die Rolle und Bedeutung dieser Orte kennen, diskutieren aktuelle Herausforderungen im Artenschutz und setzen sich mit konkreten Maßnahmen auseinander. Bei praktischen Pflegearbeiten und Forschungsaufgaben packen die Teilnehmenden selbst mit an und erfahren, wie Schutzstrategien vor Ort umgesetzt werden können.
Das Seminar verbindet fachliche Einblicke, Exkursionen und praxisorientiertes Lernen mit der Reflexion über die eigene Rolle im gesellschaftlichen Engagement für Biodiversität – und trägt so zum Erwerb zentraler Kompetenzen im Bereich Nachhaltigkeit bei.

During a three-week intensive project phase, interdisciplinary and largely international teams of students work in small groups on real-world tasks set by companies and institutions.

Rough schedule:

April 17: Information event to present the practice-oriented teaching format.
May 24: First application deadline for an improved chance of getting your desired project.
June 1: Publication of remaining places
June 28: Deadline for applying for remaining places – project assignment: first-come, first-served basis.
July 6: Publication of project assignments (team building)
Until July 24: First meeting of team members and getting to know each other and onboarding by project partners - Development of the kick-off presentation
July 27 - July 30: Preparatory workshops (3 mandatory plus additional optional workshops)
July 31 (noon): Submission of the kick-off presentation
August 3: Joint kick-off event for all teams and companies. Presentation of introductory presentations – everyone gets to know each other!
August 3–August 20: Individual project work in teams (full-time = at least 30 hours/week) / in between, mandatory and voluntary coaching sessions with the teaching team as well as 2–3 social after-work events. Goal: Submission of the final presentation (coordinated with the company) / final or detailed presentation in advance at the company
August 21: Final event with final presentations in front of all teams and companies as well as interested audience. Followed by a social gathering.
