Dr. Deborah Nyangulu is since June 2022 working as a postdoctoral fellow at the Research Training Group Contradiction Studies – Constellations, Heuristics, and Concepts of the Contradictory at the University of Bremen. She is also a member of the of the DFG funded network – Bridging Black Freedom Struggles: German and U.S.-American Perspectives.

Between 2015 - 2022 Deborah was affiliated with the Chair of English, Postcolonial and Media Studies at the University of Münster and worked in various capacities as a PhD candidate, lecturer,  postdoctoral researcher and study advisor for the Master of Arts program National and Transnational Studies: Literature, Language and Culture.

Deborah read for a Doctor of Philosophy (English Philology) at the University of Münster graduating with a PhD on Big Man Aesthetics: Masculinity, Power and Contemporary African Literature. Earlier, she obtained an MA in National and Transnational Studies from the same university. Deborah completed her BA in Humanities (English and Classics) at the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. 

Deborah has led postgraduate colloquia and taught over 40 MA and BA level courses in fields of literary and cultural studies, African studies, critical theory, new media, and theories and history of nations, nationalism, transnationalism. She has co-edited the volume Locating African European Studies: Interventions, Intersections, Conversations (Routledge 2020). Her work has appeared in the journal Research in African Literatures and a special issue she is guest-editing is also forthcoming in the journal.
